Composite insulator power frequency dry flashover voltage test procedure:

Three composite insulators shall be selected and assembled on the structure of test equipment. The insulators will be connected with power transformer, and get the voltage when testing.

The initial applied voltage can be quickly raised to approximately 75% of the expected average dry flashover voltage value, the continued rate of voltage increase shall be such that the time to flashover will be not less than 5 seconds nor more than 30 seconds after 75% of the flashover value is reached.

Composite insulator power frequency dry flashover voltage test value:
The dry flashover voltage value of a test specimen shall be the arithmetical mean of not less than five individual flashovers taken consecutively. The period between consecutive flashover shall be not less than 15 seconds nor more than 15 minutes.

Composite insulator power frequency dry flashover voltage test result:
The value of the flashover shall be corrected according to the test envorienment. The result shall be above of the rated value on the drawing, and if applied to ANSI standard, the value of the composite insulator power frequency dry flashover voltage should be above 95% of the value on the drawing.
